Paper Flowers!

I think I started having Glimmer Mist withdrawls and had to take some time tonight to "play!"

But - first let me apologize - I've been a bad blogger.  Life has been very busy since my last post.

Work has been crazy - yes, I have a real job!  We had a fundrasier for Project Grad, a community group that I am co-chair of, along with a PTO and PG meeting - ( oh - I was nominated for the seat of President of the High School PTO for next year -  I do feel honored - but can only see that happening if I can find a way to clone myself! LOL!)

My son Nick turned 21!!!!  Woo Hoo Nick!!! - I am SO PROUD of the wonderful and amazing young man he has become - I am truely in AWE of him and his drive and accomplishments!

He came home for his spring break on Friday, and I cooked an early Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner -plus lots of appetizers for our Family celebration ( just 18 of us!) on Sunday.  My youngest son Jake, has had a stomach flu since Monday night and is finally feeling a little better - good thing -he gets his braces on tomorrow - and Friday night I have a hostess club meeting -where I am going to teach them how to make these flowers (below) and we are making journals too!

Soo.....
I've been itching to get my fingers "dirty" or should I say "sparkly"?? LOL!

I've been checking out some great blogs and videos and I especially want to thank Liz Hicks for her
inspiration - check out her blog at   http://blogerisms.blogspot.com/  her "stuff" is AWESOME!

Here are 2 paper flowers that I made to teach at my Hostess Club on Friday night and plan on teaching them as a Design Team Class at Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo in the future!

This flower was made out of layers of 2 different sizes of paper that were punched out of an old dictionary and word search book that were sitting in my basement.  I Glimmer Misted them with Lime Twist, Patina and Red Velvet.  A few snips and some curling, and scrunching - then I pierced them and held them together with a brad. -- What do you think?
Next, I took a papertowel, and tore about 1 1/2 inches across the bottom.  A few spritzs of the same 3 color Glimmer Mists, and "sopped" up the excess, so that both sides were covered, then I let it dry.
I then peeled apart the 2 layers of toweling.
Then I ran a line of glue from my tape runner across my splat mat - the length of the paper towel and pressed the bottom edge of the paper towel along the tape, rubbing it firmly - I did this for each of the 2 pieces.
Pick up the first piece carefully lifting it with the tape attached, and start  rolling it to itself, pinching it now and then to form the flower - continue the same process with the second piece - pinching and holding the bottom.
Next start to "flatten" and form the flower, gently pulling and snipping sharp corners if necessary.
I sprayed the finished flower with Marshmellow Glimmer Mist and the flattened it more with an acrylic block.
Here is the finished product - I love the result - I hope you do too!

Now go ahead - get crafty and make something -- Believe me - it helps you to relax and it is an awesome feeling of accomplishment!  ENJOY!

Ranger U June 2010 Application sent in -let the waiting begin!

Well I just applied to "Ranger U's" June 2010 session. Some of you may know - this is a weekend event that you need to be selected for.

Ranger Industries, innovators of inks, paints and other craft products, offers this unique experience for store owners, teachers and designers that want to learn more about how to teach and sell Ranger’s extensive product lines.

It is a full 3-day program that has so much to offer – Tim Holtz, Ranger’s Education Director will teach hands-on techniques with Perfect Pearls, Ink, Paints and Embossing Powders. Claudine Hellmuth, Mixed-media collage artist and licensed designer will provide creative insight and teach the versatility of her signature Studio line. Suze Weinberg, licensed designer of the Melt Art™ line will teach how to use UTEE™, Beeswax and share a variety of techniques with the Melting Pot®.

So..... now I just have to sit patiently and wait until the end of April to HOPEFULLY hear back that I have been selected - and if "get in" - you will hear me jumping up and down in your neck of the woods - I'm sure!

Please cross your fingers and say a little prayer to the "Scrap Gods" that I can continue to grow in my creative journey!

Thanks ~ Sherri <3

Gobble Gobble!

I just had to share this picture of the surprise that greeted me in
the parking lot when I left work today!

A Turkey in Paterson!  LOL!

I felt sorry for the poor guy who owned the car
( not a co-worker-one of the neighbors)
as the Turkey must have thought it was a cool Turkey potty!

Can you imagine him / her trying to figure out
what the heck those "things" are on the hood of the car?!! LOL!!
