Make it Monday - January Challenge at The Memory Nest

It's time for a  "Make it Monday" Challenge over at The Memory Nest
and my FIRST post as part of this very talented Design Team!

Leslie came up with a great sketch, inspired by Simple Stories, and that is all I needed to hear to get my brain in gear and back into "Scrappy Mode" after a crazy Holiday season, and a week away between Christmas and New Years!  I was starting to get - "SWS's" - or -  "Scrappy Withdrawal Shakes!" - and this Sketch arrived in my Inbox just in time!  LOL!  ( Thanks Leslie!)

So, I don't know about you - but when I think of Simple Stories - I automatically think of their
"SAY CHEESE" Collection first.  The "split page" of the sketch made me pull out my big 12 x 12 paper pack, as I knew I had a few of those in there - that I wasn't sure what to do with!

(Speaking of Simple Stories - have you seen the "sneak peeks" of their BRAND NEW -
SAY CHEESE II line being released at CHA?? - O.M.G! - LOVE IT!! NEED IT!)

I also grabbed "some" of the embellishments that belong with the line - and dug out 2 photos from our 2012 First Trip to Disneyland.

Here is my take on the sketch:

Those of you who have visited here before already know that I am not a "chronological scrapper."  I am more of a "scrap what I feel scrapper," and therefore, I will NEVER be DONE!
These photos are from our 30th Anniversary Trip to Disneyland.  It was our first trip there, and we had a "Magical Time!"  We spent a few days there before we embarked on a
14 night cruise on The Disney Wonder to Hawaii!

The date of our visit in the photos above was 10/11/12 - so cool! What a great place to spend it and I am happy I was also able to document it too!
*PS - am I the only one who noticed that the ears on the Mickey Wheel were positioned perfectly behind my husband's head, by the CM that took our photo?!! LOL!! LOVE IT!

And one last close up for you - I love using all of the coordinating embellies that Simple Stories has for their collection and mixing in a few others while I am at it too!

Products used:
Simple Stories Say Cheese Collection:
  • 12x12 paper pack
  • Decorative Brads
  • Chipboard Stickers
  • Stickers
  • 4x6 Die Cut Cards
Queen and Company Disney Flair
EK Success Dimensional Stickers -Mickey Heads

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope the sketch inspires you to play along with us at
The Memory Nest, and to "Get your SCRAP on!"

Challenge YOUrself # 14 - "One Word"

Happy New Year Everyone!  I wish you and your families a very HAPPY and HEALTHY 2015!

I have seen people select "ONE LITTLE WORD" or "OLW" as a form of a New Years Resolution, in the past, but have not personally participated in this.

Over at the Challenge YOUrself Blog- our January 2015 Challenge is to do just that, so it looks like I'm going to give it a try!

I've been thinking for some time as to what word to use, as many went through my thoughts for example-
BLESSED - even though things might not always be perfect in my life, and things might not always go the way I anticipated them too...  I still believe everything happens for a reason, and that I am truly blessed with all that I have and all of the people in my life.
THANKFUL and GRATEFUL - These two kind of run along the line of BLESSED, and I am always Thankful and Grateful for all of my blessings.
LOVE - As the song goes "All you need is LOVE" - well, that may or may not be true - but everyone deserves to be Loved, or be shown Love - so spread some around whenever you can!

Finally, I focused on the word I knew I wanted to use as "MY WORD" for 2015, and that word is: "TIME" and here is my layout:

Webster's defines TIME in many different ways - but the one that hits home to me is :

"a non-spatial continuum that is measured in terms of events which succeed one another from past through present to future."

Take time to smell the roses
Make time
We can't control it - but we can decide how we use it
Time passes too quickly

Here are some close-ups:
I made a pocket out of a piece of the Zig Zag page, and tucked to journaling cards in it.  Love the bling on the camera too!

Layering banners of multi-patterned papers is lots of fun, and the added chipboard banners make it POP too!

One of my favorite photos of us - taken somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, between Barcelona and San Juan, Puerto Rico, on our Transatlantic Cruise this past September.

So throughout 2015 - I will focus on the word "TIME" - Something I wish I had more of.
- I will try to "Make" TIME- to ENJOY life more - every minute of it!
- I will try to "Cherish" TIME - spent with loved ones and friends
- I will try to "Take" TIME - for "me"  and try to "Create" TIME to Scrap and Create more
- I will try to "Spend" TIME wisely, and not worry so much about the little stuff.

- I will try to "Capture" TIME the best I can with creating more layouts, and journaling somewhere on them, or even on the back of them, to keep those special and everyday memories alive for generations to come.

Come on over to The Challenge YOUrself Blog, check out all the AMAZING inspiration from my fellow Design Team Members, and I hope you too will take the TIME to Play along!  I am so looking forward to see what you will come up with!!

I'm the January Guest Designer at Scrap Our Stash!

WOW!  Another honor from my New Friends at Scrap Our Stash!!

After being selected as one of the Top 3 Layouts for their
they also invited me to be a Guest Designer for their

Happy New Year to ME!
AND - HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL OF YOU TOO!

First - let me tell you about the "CHALLENGE" - It is really quite simple actually - just use "something" that starts with each of the following letters on you layout - "T - W - I - N - E"

Hmmm... so my brain started going in all kinds of directions!!
Some of the letters were easy to figure out what I would use from my STASH
- and let me tell you - after 10+ years of scrapping - I've got some STASH! LOL!

So - for "T" - of course "TWINE" came to mind - but then there was also the word "TEAR"....
and for "W" - I thought of "WHITE," "WIRE," "WASHI," and "WATER"
then for "I" - all I could come up with was "INK" but there are soo many possibilities with that one!
the letter "N" - had me totally stumped at first! BUT - I came up with "NUMBERS!"
and for "E" - I immediately thought of "EMBOSSING POWDER"
- which I just used a few layouts ago, and hadn't used since "forever" before that!!

One night after work, I escaped to my little scrappy hole in the wall to look through my STASH to see what I could pull together and what photo(s) I wanted to use for this layout. (Well, it isn't actually a hole -it is a little space off of our living room, that I share with the a computer desk - and usually with our 2 Portuguese Water Dogs, Maggie and Tino, while I am in there too!.)

SO - I started to flip through my 12 x12 box of photo envelopes.  I wasn't feeling like doing a "Disney" Layout (GASP! - did I really say that!! LOL!) and that is mostly what was in the box.  I started to think about a layout I recently came across when I was looking at the layouts I had posted in my Gallery in Scrapbooks.com .  It was a layout I did for one of their challenges back in 2010.  The challenge was to use a photo(s) of yourself, and list your 10 Favorite things at that time in your life.

I then came across 2 photos of me - taken in 2011, at EPCOT, in Walt Disney World, while my husband and I were there to celebrate my 50th Birthday, (YIKES! - I am older than dirt!  How did that happen?) so I decided it was time to scrap them ( finally!) and decided the title would be "Me at 50."

I went through my patterned papers and pulled out some that I thought went with the photo, then rummaged through my box of chipboard and grunge board letters and numbers, for the title, pulled some washi tape out and let it all sit together nicely on my desk for a few days - getting to know each other, while I kept coming back - moving things around, adding "stuff" and taking "stuff" away -waiting for the "mojo" to kick in!  It sat that way for about a week before I started to play with it.  I even pulled out a stencil and some White Gesso, and Glimmer Mist too!!!

If you are still reading along - thanks for sticking around - :-)
For that - you FINALLY get to see my layout:

This is me enjoying a Grand Marnier Orange Slush while in "France!" at Epcot!
(Maybe I should have titled it "Drinking around the World!"  LOL!)

Here is a close up of the Peacock Feathers I created with White Gesso, then Misted/Inked and outlined before adding some "Bling" to them too!

I was so excited to find the Vagabond papers in my stash - I think the floral pattern is a pretty close match - or compliments my shirt quit well - don't you!?  You can also see the TWINE used in the photo below.

For the Challenge - I used:
T = Twine and paper Tearing
W = Washi Tape, and White Gesso
I = Distress Inks and Chalk Inks
N = Numbers
E = Distress Embossing Powder

Other elements used in this layout are:
Papers used: Kaisercraft Vagabond Collection "Nomad" and "Wonderer"
Prima Songbird Collection "Jotz"
Bazzill Cardstock for Mats
Tim Holtz Grungeboard Letters and Numbers
Teal High Heal Glimmer Mist
White Gesso
Crafters Workshop Scrapbooking Templates 6x6 PEACOCK FEATHERS
Distress Stains - Vintage Photo/Victorian Velvet/Tarnished Brass/Fired Brick
Powder Puff Chalk Ink - Mango Mai Tai 3/ Pink Cheeks
Colorbox Chalk Ink - Sea Crystal
Wink of Stella Glitter Brush/Pen "Blue"
Tuttie Frutti "Hemptique" Bakers Twine
Ranger Antique Gold "Goddess Gold" Embossing Powder
***Bo Bunny Modern Miss Chipboard and ***

I hope this layout inspires you to PLAY ALONG with Scrap Our Stash.  Seriously - it is LOTS of FUN using "STUFF" I haven't touched in quite a while.  You should try it sometime!

Wishing you all a HAPPY and SCRAPPY 2015!!

Thanks for stopping by~
