My Little Scrapbook Store G45 Sun Kissed "You and Me by the Sea"

Hello Scrappy Friends -   I've created another layout for the My Little Scrapbook Store's Design Team using the beautiful Sun Kissed Collection from Graphic 45!

I selected a photo of my husband and I that was taken before our first SNUBA excursion, on our 30th Anniversary Disney Wonder Hawaiian Cruise, back in October of 2012.  I've held onto this photo for 6 years now!! because I wasn't sure if I wanted to scrap it. There was so much "stuff" in the photo around us, like a van, a ramp, people I didn't know - and our goofy looking water shoes and an ugly mat they made us stand on!!!  I decided to use more fussy cut elements and seashells to make a frame around the photo, and cover up the areas I didn't like.

I want to show you how I made the background - I knew I loved the orange fish paper - but I really loved all of the papers in this pack. I wanted to use a bunch of them, and since they all coordinate - you can't go wrong!

I first cut strips of paper and began to layer them on an angle across the base page  Since they are only 12 inches long - they would not reach to each end.  I then placed my photo and the one card element that I cut out on the layout to see about where I wanted to place them, and where I could make the "behind the scenes cuts!"

Below you can see where I "pieced" my puzzle together.  Here is a TIP - use a ruler to place your top two pieces of your first row - then just butt the other pieces up underneath it as you add more - leaving a little hanging over the edges.  This is a GREAT way to use up scraps of paper that you have too - just keep in mind where you are going to place your photo(s) -you can even draw a pencil line around where your photo is going to go - so you can make sure the gaps won't show.

Once all lines are glued - flip the paper over and use a ruler and exacto knife to trim off the overhanging pieces.

Here you can see that you can't tell that the strips didn't connect, and you can also see all the "stuff" I was taking about in the photo!

And now it is time for some close ups of the finished layout!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope I've inspired you to try out this technique, or maybe even do a little fussy cutting!  Be sure to pop on over the the My Little Scrapbook Store to pick up some of this beautiful Graphic 45 Sun Kissed Collection! SOS Golden Globe September Challenge - Hawaiian Memories

WOW - Have we got a challenge for you this month - over at the SCRAP OUR STASH BLOG!!
This month's Golden Globe Challenge is to create a GRID layout - and use a TRANSPARENCY or VELLUM on you page!!  Please head over to the SCRAP OUR STASH BLOG - for full challenge details, inspiration from the rest of our awesome Design Team, and PRIZE info too!

I sure do love a good challenge and this certainly was one for me!! If you've seen my previous layouts - you know that I like to use lots of "STUFF" and lots of layers. I felt a bit worried as to how I was going to handle the "grid" requirement of this challenge. Well, I have to say - I really like how this came out, and I had lots of fun with this challenge!  I encourage you to give it a try and play along with us!

I used photos from our 2012 Disney Wonder Cruise to Hawaii to celebrate out 30th Anniversary. For the added "Transparency" requirement, I used an acetate overlay from the Kaisercraft Tropicana Collection.
Here are some close ups for you:
I added a piece of fishnet between the base page and the matching acetate overlay. I then glued various embellishments to the top of the overlay - seaglass, flowers and seashells gave the layout more depth and texture.

I have had this palm tree sticker forever!  I think it finally found the perfect home on this layout!

Here we are standing on a black sand beach  - with shirts on that our cruise group had made. - It was a truly a vacation to remember!

I added a journaling card as part of the grid elements - and since it was a Disney cruise - I had to add the cute little pink Mickey head!

I love the little pink embellishment flowers - and I especially love the photos of the beautiful hibiscus too!

Thanks so much for stopping by - I hope you join us for this challenge over at the Scrap Our Stash Blog!

Scrap Our Stash OCTOBER Word Challenge "INKS"

Hi Everyone!!  Lots of Inspiration and Creativity going on this month over at the Scrap Our Stash Blog !

It is time for our "WORD" Challenge of the month and while it may look nice and easy since it is a short one - it might be a bit of a challenge for you -BUT that is what makes if FUN!!  You get to dig through your "STASH" - kind of like a Scavenger Hunt!  So get ready to play along with us!!

This month's word is "INKS"

I will admit that I did find the letters "I" and "N" a bit of a challenge - BUT I did find some yummy "stuff" while searching through my "STASH!"

Here are the items that I used for the Challenge:
I- Ink (for edge distressing)  and Graphic 45's Garden Isle paper from Tropical Travelogue
N- Net ( love this - I stapled it on!)
K - Key, Kaisercraft Sandy Toes Collection "Sea Shells"
S - Staples, Starfish, Stickers, Seashells

Here is my Inspiration Layout:

This is a photo from our 2012 Disney Wonder, Hawaiian Cruise. It was taken on the ship, just after we returned from an AMAZING excursion along the Breathtaking Na'Pali Coastline.  It is a day we will never forget!  I am really happy with how this layout came out.  I LOVE the Bright Blue mats with the off white Starfish paper, and I couldn't resist combining some my Graphic 45 Tropical Travelogue Collection. colors together with them.  Since this was a Disney Cruise, I had to add a few Mickey's to the layout too!  There are 3 of them - can you find them?

Here are some close ups for you too!:

Love the starfish and seashell paper - also, maybe I should have counted the 5 letter "i"s in Nawiliwili, Kauai as one of the components of the challenge LOL!

I covered a chipboard heart with a G45 sticker, and I love the sweet little 3D fish, and the anchor paperclip in this grouping.

Here you can see how I stapled the netting onto the page, and maybe you can spot a "not so hidden" Mickey too!

We had a very "WONDERful" time celebrating our 30th Anniversary on this Amazing 14 night Disney Wonder Hawaiian Cruise.  It is a trip we will always remember!

I hope this inspires you to come play along with us at the Scrap Our Stash Blog - Don't forget, you have until October 31st to LINK UP!  I can't wait to see what you will create!!

Hawaiian Nights

I want to share another layout I made using the sketch from
Scrap-a-Doodle Doo's October Sketch Challenge with you.
I really love this sketch and had lots of fun using it more than once.

I created this layout to showcase 2 of my favorite photos from our 30th Anniversary Cruise that we took just about 1 year ago, in October 2012.  We sailed on The Disney Wonder, from Los Angeles to the Hawaiian Islands, and back.  It was a 14 night cruise, and it was an AWESOME TRIP!

The photos show Phil and I with our 2 new friends and tablemates, sitting at "our table" in one of the nightclubs on the ship, and then Phil and I dressed up for the Halloween Party.  To say that we had a GREAT TIME, would be an understatement.

I loved using Graphic 45's Tropical Travelogue Collection on this page.  I used a piece of black Bazzill Cardstock for the base, I inked the edges of it with Tarnished Brass Ranger Distress Stain. Besides lots of papers from the collection, I used the coordinating stickers, along with chipboard elements.

I Love all the colors in this G45 Collection and their vintage tropical feel.

Thanks for stopping by!
