NY State of Mind...

"In New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There's nothing you can't do,
Now you're in New York,
These streets will make you feel brand new,
The lights will inspire you,
Let's here it for New York, New York, New York...."

Here is a canvas that I will be selling to a friend who "commissioned me" to make it for her to give as a gift.
Her requirements were - "not too big"  ( it is 12"x12") Blacks, Red, Silver & Bling -a place for a 4 x 6" photo.

I "painted' the canvas with Ranger Distress Inks - Fired Brick and Black Soot + water, then mixed black acrylic paint and Ranger silver distress crackle paint in with Gesso, which I applied over the top of Glimmer Screens in the 2 corners.  I removed the stencils and let it dry very well. Then I sprayed the canvas and the cardboard heart that I had peeled with Red Velvet and Raven Glimmer Mist, and I sprayed the NY paper with Graphite.

So - here is what I came up with:

I LOVE all of the textures and layers on this canvas - the Prima Black Swirls, the antique buttons, the small glass beads and glitter - the raised layer of the Gesso mixed with paint, the shiny yet cracked (Ranger Distress crackle paint in Silver on the  NYC chipboard letters, the softness of the red Webster's Pages ribbon flowers, the grungy look of the peeled corrugated cardboard heart, the bling of the  Jolie's Statue of Liberty that I painted with Silver Smooch as it was Gold and Black, and I needed to make it Silver and Black!

I hope she likes it --- Please leave a comment and let me know if you like it too!

  2. Thanks for posting a comment Jolanda! It was so much fun - I think I am a canvas addict! LOL!

I see you are from Holland - My Great-Grandparents came from Holland -their last name was De Knegt - which was changed to De Knight by the time my Dad was born. We have a saying here "If you are not Dutch, you are not much!" LOL! - I grew up in a area where there were a lot of Dutchman!

    Have a wonderful weekend!
